Victim Profile
Randy Knilans
an architect, husband, father and grandfather, was killed in 2019 when he was hit by a drunk driver while he was biking along Lake Road in Avon Lake, near his home. The street, which runs along Lake Erie’s coast, is popular with bicyclists. Randy, who was 66, was a careful bicyclist and sailor, who always wore a helmet and high-visibility clothing. His wife, Patty, wonders if he would still be alive if the driver were traveling slower.
Lake Road is signed at 35 miles per hour, despite being mostly residential, and a popular bike route.
“How many deaths or injuries are needed to warrant impactful and proven changes?”
